Christmas is coming.

We’re renovating the downstairs in our home to allow for 2 rooms, a bathroom with a shower, and a common area for home stay international students come January (well, we are hoping to rent them in January that is).  In the meantime, I decided to clean it, spiffy it up, and use it as a studio throughout the winter/cold months.  Genius!!!!  Here’s a Christmas light backdrop I just set up last night.

Megan + her family.

A few weekend ago I had the opportunity to photograph my friend Megan and her family.  The fall colours were just gorgeous!!!!  I couldn’t ask for a better back drop for this beautiful family.  I loved this session because Megan and her family were so relaxed, casual, and fun!  I really was pleased to capture some honest to goodness, organic moments; which is what photography is all about for me.

Little Miss L.

Little L was born at the beginning of October and look how cute she is!  I love her little nose.  She was a complete pro and totally photogenic just like her lovely mama.  Actually, their whole family is gorgeous!

You’re a Doll.

Recently I had the opportunity to work with model, Krysta Karizma through our SmugMug get together in Nanaimo and loved her style and ability to just KNOW how to move her body and get THE poses to translate into awesome photos.  She is just a JOY to work with.  Seriously.  This girl knows her stuff.  Another opportunity came about when she had an idea for a concept shoot where she wanted to dress and have her makeup (which was done by the wonderfully talented, Danielle Lindemann) done like a doll.  She was looking for something different and I suggested the Paradise Mini Golf in Parksville – mini houses, mini windmills, mini everything.  I went with an adult living doll theme which included some of the structures from the mini golf & a tea party set up at the end of the session.  I could not have been more pleased how everything fell into place for this and I had so much fun!  A big thanks to Susan and Joseph at the Paradise Mini Golf, Krysta, and Danielle for all your efforts.  I could not have done this without a great team.

Wardrobe & Hair – Krysta Karizma
Make-up – Danielle Lindemann
Location – Paradise Mini Golf, Parksville BC
Set Styling for the Tea Party – Joanna Bach

Here’s just a few from the session:

my fall baby.

One day last week, T and I went to the park to play in the fall leaves and go to the playground nearby.  Couldn’t resist bringing the camera since I knew the colours would be gorgeous!

an update on sessions.

I just updated my session info on my INFO section on Facebook so thought I would provide it on the blog as well.

SESSION INFO – I am currently skill building and selectively taking on a variety of sessions. I’m booked currently, but I’ll update this info page when more spots open up.

DETAILS – In exchange for your time and upon signing a model & print release, you will receive 4 professionally edited images carefully selected by me from your session. You will receive, on a CD, both low resolution, watermarked versions (specifically for email/web sharing/facebook) AND high resolution versions for printing purposes at a lab (there is 1 in town that I HIGHLY recommend to ensure your prints are of the best quality).

Miss Audrey’s 6 Month Session!

I took Audrey’s photo when she was just a few months old.  Look at her now!!  Such a cutie patoots –  I love her.

…and a shiny new logo and watermark (the B&W version)!!!  Thank you to Emily from starlingmemory on ETSY for creating it.  It’s perfect!   She’s from Victoria, BC too!

You better work…

by RuPaul.  🙂

So I belong to a group of fabulous photographers who meet once a month and totally geek out about photography, gear, styles, concept, strobes, triggers, lenses, cameras, etc.  It is run by Neil and Adam of Vivid Photography and is sponsored by Smug Mug.  I love this group.  If I ever had to miss a month, I’d cry.  I have learned so much from this group and everyone is especially awesome at sharing their trade secrets. 😉  I love it when photographers can come together and share ideas and knowledge.  I am thankful and it makes me feel all mushy and lovey.  This particular day, they brought in models.  Let me tell you, this was a totally 180 when one is used to taking pictures of kids.  Finally, someone who takes direction, doesn’t take one look at you and cry, or run away in the other direction.  Bliss.  Don’t get me wrong, I love taking pictures of kids, I really do – this was a nice change of pace.  So here is my absolute favourite from the night.  Model – the stunning and charming Krysta Knott (in fact, I am working with her again next week!)  Make up – Danielle Lindemann .  Hair – Kaliandra Fowdry.

The sunny side.

We do a lot of walking since we are a one vehicle family and my husband uses it for work every day.  So we walk everywhere.  If we want to go somewhere, we load up the double Chariot and start our adventure (whether it be me walking the stroller or biking with the trailer on the back).   There are a lot of good thing that come with this.  Yes it saves on car insurance, maintenance, gas, and all the added costs of another vehicle.  Yes it’s good for the environment, great physical activity and has really curbed my I.need.to.jump.in.the.truck.and.go.shopping.right.now.and.buy.stuff. habit.  However, I have recently discovered a hidden positive!  Finding these little spots to take photos.  It may just be a  small corner of greenery, stone, wall, stairs, field.  Having no car is like the ultimate location scout!!  I think I just spend more time looking at my surrounding environment since I’m not whizzing by at car speeds.  Annika has been begging me to stop at the cemetery since she saw it the other day.  So we did – this is wall the surrounds it.

a couple of new things.

I have had a couple of different concepts in mind lately.  One being to shoot against my new seamless paper backdrop.  I’ve heard great things about seamless and when it arrived in the mail. I could not WAIT to use it!  Test subjects – enter my nephew and my oldest.  Here’s one from that little mini session.

I finally attempted to take some pictures of my youngest who is normally constantly running away from me.   She doesn’t take direction so I just photographed her while she did kid stuff.  Really, it’s the best way.  Life. Captured.
